French Blues with SK

The French Blues

This "little" project was a joy to create. The old, rickety chairs, little desk and bedside table had seen better days.

So Many Black Stripes with SK

SK's yard sale find. $5.00 with broken legs.  #painted upholstery#painted fabric#chalk painted upholstery

The fabric is in pretty good condition. The nailheads are all there. The tapestry fabric had no tears, so my custom chalk paint would work great.
My personal favorite chalk paint recipe is:
2 parts flat latex paint
1 Part Calcium Carbonate, Ground white chalk
A couple tablespoon water
Mix till all lumps are gone
And I mix throughout my painting project as well.

I dampen the fabric with a spray bottle,  and start at the top and paint downward. Very light coats. I took 3 coats to cover. I find it interesting that the tapestry fabric looks amazing as the coats of paint dry.

I started the wood arms and legs by silver foiling.

After the black stripes were dry I drew my design on with white chalk.
Not liking the first design, I washed the chalk design off and started again.
You might notice the woodwork is now old gold foil. I wasn't happy with the silver.

I have some pretty diamond gold buttons going on next.
Black penned details are starting to appear.

Not bad for five bucks...

After the final artwork was finished, I used a clear paste wax, rubbing the wax in circular motions.
When the wax was dry, I started buffing. I repeated this three times.

The wax made the gerber daisy appear golden and glow a bit.
Love it.
It feels like a fine leather.

Thanks for visiting.

A Life Long Wedding Round Four. The Cake & Specialty Florals

The Cake

A Life Long Wedding Round Three, The Cake Stand

The Cake with SK

Kimmies cake was dreamt of for many years. Her favorite flavors, colors and the lines of cake were all important.

Over twelve hundred invitations were sent, so this meant we needed a larger than normal cake with many flavors.

She wanted to make sure it tasted fabulous on top of looking stupendous....

The cake design was sketched and re-sketched, then drawn to scale in color.

Because the cake would have five layers and be over 50" tall and weigh more than a hundred pounds, a typical cake stand would never do.

I turn to what I know, and I knew this cake needed a very special and sturdy cake stand.

Tiny, Tiny Bath with SK

I have fun with tight spaces, especially baths. I have been known to go a little crazy with fun, bright colors and patterns.

Saved Antique Details Of La Chicken

This poor baby was rescued for pennies. After I researched this little heavily built table, I discovered the hand carved front drawer panel was from a destroyed cabinet.

Smoke and burn marks are apparent. I envision this being in a old, beautiful and much loved cabinet. When the fire was extinguished, this little carved piece was all which could be saved.

The cabinet is built like a brick, well-worn and used. The body, legs and T-support were built from old wood. The builder wanted to save the hand carved drawer panel, so he built the entire table to showcase this feature.
I am excited to see The Graphics Fairy has featured this fun table. You can visit The Graphic Fairy story here:
Thanks Graphics Fairy. I love your work and use it as often as I can.

Stuffed & Painted

With left-over canvas fabric I learned how to sew simple pillow covers. Simple enough project.

Each pillow is painted on each side. The one side is for spring/summer/country, the other sides are painted for winter/valentines.

PoppyCock
Brrr...

My grandbabies love flipping every pillow over, hoping for another new surprise.

SK Sartell, Wood Frosting & Modern Masters Paints

I'm having a blast working with some "new to me products". First I love texture and have found a great long lasting texture to use with hand-cut stencils. Then I tackled metal reactive paints from Modern Masters Paints.

SK's Chalkboard Refrigerator

I have hated my stainless steel fridge since brand new. It looks great when it's clean. But heaven forbid don't ever use it or get fingerprints on it. It is a constant battle to keep clean. So I decided to fix the problem.

Buggy Book

My children's book  and it's illustrations on it's way. But what a mess in the kitchen. I can't believe how long it is taking me to paint each page. Maybe I'm just stalling?

Kimberly

I have found a fun artist and enjoy her work.
Thank you Kimberly for sharing.
